A man who admitted six counts of sexual assault on a seven-year-old girl will not spend the a day in jail, a court heard yesterday.
Martin Redmond received a three year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to abusing the child between 1973 and 1977.
At Wexford District Court, judge Michael White said the offences took place when the defendant was an adolescent between 17 and 21 years.
He said aggravating factors were the prolonged abuse over time and the victim’s age.
But he added mitigating factors were that the defendant, of Letterkenny Road, Stranorlar, Co Donegal, pleaded guilty and a length of time that had passed since the crimes were committed.
