Man (21) jailed for indecent pictures

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for taking pictures with his mobile phone after putting it under young women's skirts in a shop and on the street.

Brendan Beatty, of Lenaboy Gardens, Salthill, Galway, was jailed for seven months yesterday at Galway District Court after pleading guilty.

Judge Mary Fahy said the offences had caused great trauma for the three young women concerned and there was the added fear that the images could be put on the internet.

Beatty pleaded guilty to Section 6 of the Public Order Act, by engaging in insulting and abusive words or behaviour which was likely to lead to a breach of the peace at Boots, Shop Street, Galway, on November 14 last.

Gda Insp Sean Glynn said he and Gda Fergal Kilbane were called to the incident after a member of staff at Boots saw Beatty holding his mobile phone up under a young girl's skirt in the shop.

A security guard who followed Beatty out on to the street was kicked and punched in the face by him.
