Ex-garda's suicide bid delays sentencing for child trafficking

Sentencing of a former garda sergeant for child trafficking has been adjourned due to his hospitalisation following a suicide attempt.

Kieran O'Halloran (48) pleaded guilty last March to inciting a woman "to organise or knowingly facilitate the use of a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation".

He had been remanded for sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday but Judge Katherine Delahunt adjourned his case to a date in 2009 when told he was in hospital after attempting to take his own life last Friday.
