THE country's priests are to get a crash course in crisis media management at their annual conference which starts today.
A well-known psychotherapist is also to give the priests a talk on child sex abuse and its effects.
The annual conference of the National Conference of Priests of Ireland, which is starting in Maynooth today, will focus on 'Caring for Priests'.
"For some time now in Ireland the ministry of the ordained priesthood has been adapting within a Church that it itself changing. Sometimes the very ground at our feet seems to be shifting," a NCPI spokesperson said.
Today's key note speaker will be Don Neumann, an American priest who has been a consultant to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Also speaking today will be Eugene Duffy, the Director of the Western Theological Institute in Galway and Opus Dei priest Tom McGovern.
Tomorrow, psychotherapist Marie Keenan will speak about child sex abuse. Walter Young, head of Young Communications, who specialises in crisis media management will host a workshop for the priests to help them deal with the media.
