Fr Colm Kilcoyne of the National Conference of Priests has said Cardinal Desmond Connell should open the books of the Archdiocese to the authorities.

Fr Kilcoyne said the Cardinal should answer questions about issues raised in the Prime Time programme, 'Cardinal Secrets'.

Speaking on Morning Ireland, Fr Kilcoyne said action was needed now.

He said the law of the land was superior to Canon Law.

However Monsignor Maurice Dooley, a former professor of canon law at St Patrick's College, Thurles in County Tipperary, said Cardinal Connell was being demonised by the media.

He said Cardinal Connell was a very wise man not to appear on the Prime Time programme.

He said people were entitled to be tried in a proper forum and not a media circus as it is in some cases.
