A SCOUT leader and GAA coach yesterday admitted forcing an 11-year old boy into sex on scout camps after initially abusing him while ghost stories were being told.
Judge Patrick Moran heard that John O'Leary's indecent assaults on an 11-year-old boy in the 1970s while he was a scout leader had left the victim feeling "stained for life".
John O'Leary (42) from Clontarf Estate, Blackrock, Cork had pleaded guilty before Cork Circuit Criminal court to five counts of indecent assault against the 11-year-old boy at a scout hall, a disused quarry and a scout camp during the late 1970s.
A former scout leader, O'Leary also served as a GAA coach and was an active member of a city golf club.
The assaults started when O'Leary climbed onto the boy's bunk while ghost stories were being told on a scout camp. He slipped his hand inside the boy's sleeping bag and abused him.
The next day, he brought the boy to an isolated field, took off both their clothes and forced the young boy into oral sex.
O'Leary then performed oral sex on the 11-year-old.
Yesterday, in an emotional statement to the court, the victim - who cannot be named - said that the abuse had left him feeling that sex was "repulsive and dirty".

The judge heard that O'Leary immediately admitted the offences when he was contacted by the Gardai in February 2001.
