A District Court judge in County Kerry has decided that an alleged case of possessing child pornography is too serious to be tried in his court.
At Killarney District Court, Judge Humphrey Kelleher declined jurisdiction in the case of a 31-year-old man whose premises was one of more than 100 raided by Gardaí under Operation Amethyst throughout the country.
The man has been summoned under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998 and his case, which may be tried in the Circuit Court, was adjourned until 20 May for service of the Book of Evidence.
Silvano Taddei, of Ross Road, Killarney, County Kerry, is charged with knowingly having in his possession images of children in pornographic poses in unallocated clusters and temporary internet folders on his computer, contrary to section six of the Act, on 27 May.
The defendant is single and works in the restaurant business.
