Eight Charged in "Most Heinous Acts of Child Sexual Abuse"

The Ottawa Police have arrested and charged eight persons residing in Ottawa with possession of child pornography. This complex investigation was initiated when the RCMP National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre provided information to the Ottawa Police relating to the purchase of child pornography over the Internet.

The Ottawa Police High Tech Crime Unit conducted the investigation, which led to the execution of numerous residential search warrants in the Ottawa region. Fourteen computers were seized, along with thousands of pieces of storage media in the form of CD’s and DVDs, which in turn contained tens of thousands of child pornography images and movies.

This evidence contained some of the most heinous acts of child sexual abuse ever seen by members of the High Tech Crime Unit, and the volume of child pornography seized is unprecedented in the history of the Ottawa Police Service.

Charged with possession of child pornography are:

Derek BAUER, 44 yrs old of Ottawa William BITTLE, 58 yrs old of Ottawa Gerald HORNER, 48 yrs old of Ottawa James MCEWEN, 29 yrs of Ottawa.  Charged with accessing child pornography, and possession of child pornography is: 
Roger DEMERS, 53 yrs of Ottawa  Charged with possession of child pornography, possession of a prohibited weapon, and breach of probation is:  Robert LONGLEY, 31 yrs of Ottawa,  Charged with possession of child pornography, and careless storage of a firearm is:  Joseph TRENHOLM, 64 yrs of Ottawa,  Charged with possession of child pornography, and possession for the purpose of distributing child pornography is:  Jason LEHMAN, 31 yrs old of Ottawa.

All charged persons were released with conditions after a show cause hearing, and the matters are presently before the Ontario Provincial Court.
