Hospital Volunteer accused of Additional Sexual Abuse

A former hospital pediatric unit volunteer who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a four-year-old boy in Monongalia County is facing additional charges in Preston County.

Jonathon Freemont Ray, 24, of Fairmont, was sentenced Monday to one to five years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree sexual abuse.

Ray also is accused of sexually abusing and assaulting two eight-year-old boys, a six-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl repeatedly from 1998 through 2001 while he baby-sat the children.

He faces 23 counts of sexual abuse, sexual assault and related crimes in two separate incidents involving the four children at a home in Masontown and a home on state Route 92 in Preston County.

Ray will stand trial December Seventh on those charges.  The conviction earlier this week stemmed from a January 2003 incident when a child was a patient at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Ray remains in the Preston County Jail.
