Man Charged with Sexual Abuse

Police yesterday detained a man in his 70s on charges of sexually abusing his adopted daughter repeatedly over two years.

Seoul's Yongsan Police said it requested an arrest warrant for the man, identified by his family name Pyeon, for abusing his 17-year-old Korean-Chinese daughter whom he adopted in 2000.

He violated her over 140 times for over two years before her mother moved in to live with her daughter, according to Yonhap news.

The daughter spoke about the abuse last September in a counseling session with a nun, who brought charges against Pyeon at a district court.

He strongly denied the allegations while the police are investigating the charges.
