Sexual abuse is a complicated issue

Going from pain to hope
The bishops just can't cope.
Neither can their leader, the pope.
Somehow they missed its scope.

"It's too hard to proffer a dictum
That deals fairly with a victim,"
He said, as he clutched his tissue,
"Sexual abuse is a complicated issue."

It's not about children who've been raped
It's all about how the law is shaped.
Lest you think us a coven of fools,
We must all submit to God's rules.

"How can a law apply to all fiefs
If we are all appointed chiefs?"
He said, as he clutched his tissue,
"Sexual abuse is a complicated issue."

Morality has never been universal.
The pope has the right of reversal.
He'll tell you what's right for his lot
Because he's truly God's big shot.

So let the children be damned
And let the victims be slammed
While he earnestly hems, and haws
About the vagaries of church laws.

He said, as he clutched his tissue,
"Sexual abuse is a complicated issue."
